Thanks for the review. I am considering going to a local meeting of OA. I have managed to keep a decent amount of weight off, but it continues to be a struggle because of the compulsive desire to eat. This was very helpful. <3

  • velveetaslingshot said,

OA is great for working out your issues with food.
I speak from experience though that is tough. Tougher than any diet or exercise program. Because OA forces you to exercise your mind and deal with the issues that cause you to overeat in the first place. For me that was like pulling teeth! But well worth it!!!

  • simsgirlgem said,

its not easy to just go I mean I’ve been heavy since i was ten and the abuse people use hurts self esteem

  • bigpinkears said,

dude, just make yourself. if you make yourself go once, confidence will no longer be an issue. these folks open their arms wide and take you in. and when you hear about all these other folks problems, you realize that you are among people who are the same as you.

seriously, just force yourself to go, just once. it will be so much easier to go the second time.

  • juliemulie345 said,

I found out there is a group in my area! I don’t know whether they have an age limit though. Is it just for over-18′s or is it all ages? (I’m 17)

and running an EDA group and going to OA as well helped her alot, she held on for a very very long time. Its not a success story I wish it were but in a way it is, it still helped her and I dont know what im trying to say. It helped me too. and they are free which is awesome. eatingdisordersanonymous[dot]org the difference is that EDA believes in Balance not abstinence like OA does. Going to both though Ive heard is even better !! just my worthless two cents :-)

  • MorbidHunger said,

I’ve never been to OA, I lived in rhode island and there I got a random email from a woman with MPD and EDs as well as other addictions and told me she was starting an EDA meeting at the Brown University campus well It ended up only being me and her for a long time we’d get other that would come and go..but anyway it really did help. if you dont have OA where yo live there is EDA same thing, 12 steps all that its cool just another option my freind (before she passed away) went to OA as well.

  • salemsinead said,

hi. I never knew that there was such a support group out there for overeaters. I need to lose weight but I know that there’s know point in giving it a try unless I’m get support to find out why I’m eating the way I’m eating so I’m going to look at the website and see if there’s any meetings in ireland.

  • oun1111ish said,

(this was supposed to be printed as a reply to franfrombrazil….)(::and only once::)

  • oun1111ish said,

hi fran….i too found a lot of help in OA…many people do not realize that there are OA groups in many countries around the world….the oa dot org website has a listing of the meeting locations in brazil….perhaps there is one near where you live?….if not, the OA website also lists online meetings….

  • MyOwnStickFigure said,

    I totally agree!

  • MyOwnStickFigure said,

I am very proud of you, that’s courageous!

  • pukalele said,

in OA, people are encouraged to take what they want out of the program and leave the rest, whatever feels best to them. i know athiests who get a lot out of the support of OA. i haven’t experienced them being discrimiated against.

  • noreexic said,

well im going into hospital next week for my ana and the only good thing i suppose about iit is there will b a lot of support and there are so many teenagers there like me
