I completely understand how you feel. I have been a diabetic since 1998. Since 2005, I was on Lantus once a day and 15-20 units of a fast acting insulin 2-3 times a day ( whenever I ate ). In 2007, my husband lost his job and we lost our insurance. We moved out of state to live with my mother. There were no programs to help people unless you had lived in that state for at least a year. Obviously, I had not. I got a job, but got laid off after 2 & 1/2 months. The house we lived in got foreclosed on, and we moved in with his family back to GA. I ended up having to quit the insulin and take metformin, which is NOT as effective. I am currently taking 1000 mg twice a day, and my sugar levels are still in the 200-300 range most of the day. The biggest reason, is neither me nor my husband has had any income - AT ALL for a year now.

When I lost that job back in June of 2008. Neither one of us can find work, especially in this economy. I have had to rely on help from friends and family in order to keep me in medicine. Plus, I also have high blood pressure and on 2 different medications for that. The metformin I take is only about $10 for a 90 day supply. Have you tried taking that? Also - I had to go on prozac - 40 mg. I take the generic which is only about $10 for a 90 day supply.

TRUST Me - I know it's hard. But you just gotta keep going. I pray and I have faith. You can get to a place where you feel a better. I've done it. It's hard, but you CAN do it. Realize that you are doing the best you can, and that's all you can do. Everything will work itself out. You just do the best you can, and things will start getting better.

I do sometimes still get angry about it, ( I think that's normal ) but you know what, being diagnosed probally saved my life. I watch what I eat. I didn't do that before, and i got to almost 300 lbs. at one time.

Look at the positive sides. I know your like - what's positive? Well, you are alive. You are able to live, and take pleasure in joy in things.
Have Faith, Pray, Talk to God if you choose. ( I don't know your religion.) But, it helped me.

God will not lead you to it if he wasn't going to see you through it.

I hope this helps some. I am at work when Im on my email, but I will respond if you want to discuss this more.

Have Faith
-Heather

I haven't had insurance for almost 6 years, but I got on the county health clinic system in Los Angeles County. I took some effort to get into the system, but since I've been in my insulin, syringes, and test strips are free. I embellished about my lack of ability to pay, but what is considered the poverty line in California is ridiculous. I can barely afford my rent, so free supplies helps me regulate my condition. In California, a doctor can not let you out of their care without three days of medication. Most will give 7 days to 4 weeks. Check your laws, and use forums like this to get in contact with people in your state, county, or area. Good luck. I feel for you.

i have a question is depressin a side effect of the insulin or the other meds,or is depression a side effect of the diabetes.i have been depressed before but have always been able to work my self through it but being depressed is a major issuse now. and being without a job really doesnt help.My sister has had diabetes for over four years, she does the no carb,or only good carbs.and she stills has sugar high and lows.Being from the south it really is hard to give up white rice and potatoes and white bread.
