Protect our kids: Sign the petition www.preventioninstitute.org Experts agree that junk food is a huge contributor to skyrocketing rates of diabetes, high blood pressure, and even strokes among adults–and increasingly, among children. And food and beverage companies spend billions of dollars promoting unhealthy foods virtually everywhere kids go. The Interagency Working Group on Foods Marketed to Children (IWG) has proposed reasonable nutrition guidelines to help provide a model for companies that market to kids. Unfortunately, the food industry and media companies are working to get Congress to stop the IWG from finalizing these sensible recommendations. “We’re Not Buying It,” exposes deceptive marketing to children, debunks industry claims, and highlights the latest research. When we put children first, the plan of action is clear: companies should market the foods that keep kids healthy, not sugary cereals and other junk food. @katycat1616 What in particular is racist about it? This is a fairly realistic scenario. Rich businessmen do sometimes take advantage of children and women in impoverished countries like this. It’s actually more common than you think and the sex slave trade is huge. I think people need to be made more aware of it.

How about get your child off his ass and get some exercise? Parents make the choices, not these companies. I ate my fair share of these products as a kid and I’m perfectly healthy 24 year old. Its called sports, and playing outside. We would make a game out of kicking a can as a kid if we were bored. Now my 13 year old cousin sits inside all day playing xbox. Parents are to blame.

It’s true some junk food ads are misleading, but you just need to read nutrition values to know it’s mostly fats and sugar. Tbh if a child has a healthy nutrition at home and makes excercise, I don’t see any problem with eating some sugary cereals or drinking soda once in a while.
Having junk food in schools is horrendous tho… since school has responsabilities on the children they should give healthy food in cafeterias…

The media and commercials are brainwashing. Having a kid watch TV is a death-sentence. Either tell them that those commercials are BS (in a child-telling way), and let them increase their amount of tv as they get older, where they are able to understand what they are seeing.

Parents SHOULD NOT be letting their kids watch so much TV that kids are changing their mind on the way they look at society, themselves and what they want to eat. Fact is, kids have no reason to watch more than an hour of tv a day. If having your kid sit in front of the tv is the only way to keep them occupied, then that sucks; you are clearly not fit to care for a child. As for the other comment, ok? Parents have rule over their kids. They control what they eat. Stupid commercials don’t.

sugars and unhealthy fats combined w/ a sedentary life style is a killer. combine that with fast food which is who knows what nutritionally and you got where we are today.

It’s not just the sugar and unhealthy fats that are causing our children’s health crisis. It is the wheat too–which once our bodies digest it is the same as sugar. And pointing that out is an even bigger threat to the Food Industry than a focus on sugar and unhealthy fats.

These kinds of sloppy pronunciations originated from these very corporations via their commercials and programming. Voices like this are used because they decrease expectations. Even big banks use them now on their helplines. Who expects anything from someone who speaks this way? NOBODY. I miss Walter Cronkite…
