Autism Signs and Symptoms

“Autism signs and symptoms can sound abstract on the page, but this video illustrates things like lining up toys, stacking blocks, rocking head back and forth, and other repetitive behaviors as it catches a little boy named Kevin in the act. Watch it to compare Kevin’s behavior to your own child’s … or just to fall in love with this curly-headed cutie.” Terri Mauro Guide to Parenting Special Needs specialchildren.about.com The images from the video would help ilustrate some basic concepts that are key for the early identification of children with autism. I have a kid on the spectrum. Watching this is like watching him when he was Kevin’s age . Only then, I knew very little about autism, especially the high functional kind. Thanks for posting!

This is one of the most inspirational videos that I have seen yet. Thank you so much, as this has been a hard time for me, and you little man looks just like my guy and this makes me so happy to know that he has a kindred spirit out there!
Thanks, Heidi (mama to Logan 25m, dx at 21m)

or a high pitch but quiet buzzing/whisling noise. this problem mixed with my growing anxiety is how i found out about aspergers.

this change is making me feel very stressed and confused and my sensory problems seems to be bothering me more and more. i felt like it was going to be sick today because everyone was talking at once. i have actually been sick from the same kind of thing but i was in a noisy pub and i had 1 pint (this was befor i even new about aspergers). not sure if this is a sensory overload but i experience a pounding echo when people talk loud or shout.

i have only just recently found out that i may have aspergers. i have always seen other people like they was word smiths and wondered how they coped so well talking to other people. I found out about aspergers because recently i have gone onto the next year in collage and my days i go there overlap with most of the stuff i do during the week and its turned into a very social enviroment compaired to the last 2 years and they dont teach you much its mostly assignments. when i was a baby my mum told me that i never cryed (maby this was because i was unaware that i could use it if i wanted something). i also liked the cover on my pram when it was raining (i still remember this). i liked the sound and watching the rain run down it. when i was around 6 years old i was very interested in how stuff works and science (i watched the sooty episode ‘simple science’ hundreds of times). my perents actually got me to wire stuff up to the tv if they dint no how.

-3 he reminds me of my lil one! My 21 month old loves to watch the stock market and CNN a lot of it has to do with numbers and of course the scrolling text across the screen. To all us parents and care givers who live this every day keep your head up we’re doing the best we can

Thank you so much for posting this video. My husband and saw this about two years ago. It helped us understand autistic behavors and we took our son to see a developmental specialist who confirmed that he has autism.

“* doesn’t know how to play with toys.” – in some cases that is because they aren’t interested about toys, but “grown up things”. My boyfriend have Asperger’s and his mother have telling me about he’s childhood. As a toddler he explored all complex machines from home, like sewing machine, radio, vcr etc. and wanted to know how they work. At 6 years old he was very interested in human anatomy and learned to know everything about it. And when teen, camed engines. First mopeds, then cars.

I hate having the MMR vaccine I got injected when I got it I experienced it which means I was not outgoing and talkative with other kids I didn’t expect it but I wish it didn’t exist so I don’t have to deal with this bullshit over and over.

This is such fucking bullshit!!.. im tired of people diagnosing kids with AUTISM when there acting like normal GOTDAMN kids…this lil boy is adorable and my 2 1/2 year old acts much like him… he lines his toys up? ( ok ).. he’s making goofy faces and rolling in the floor?? ( ok )..what the hell u expect for him to be sitting in his favorite recliner sipping coffee reading OTHELLO.. Sheesh..kids are wacky..all..and some adults.. stop exploiting ur kids.. they will grow up one day!

Just because he lines his toy cars up doesn’t mean he is Autistic. He must enjoy seeing them lined up as a team or envoy. You should take him to a parade sometime.

For information on the bases of many nonverbal learning disorders (common in Asperger’s), in addition to audiological disorders such as Autism (toward end of talk) search “Dr. Laurie Cestnick” and “harvard university” on youtube for a video. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!

What a gorgeous little boy. My youngest son is also autistic and has all the same characteristics, though my son rocks bakc and forth and shakes his head far more violently. This video really helped me realise that my little boy is not alone, and that there are other beautiful children like him.
